Culture Buddies - Mail Art

Connecting older isolated people with art and creativity through the post.

Arc is launching a new project called Culture Buddies which aims to connect older isolated people who due to health or lack of digital access cannot benefit from other services at this time, to help them stay connected and creative whilst at home.

Culture Buddies will connect each participant with a volunteer ‘buddy’ with whom they will begin a creative exchange through the post.  Both participants and buddies will receive an Art Pack full of materials and resources to support the creation of their Mail Art.

All of the communication will be via the Arc Centre at the Hat Works, so there will be no exchange of address or personal information between the ‘buddy’ (volunteer) and participant.

There is no time limit on the project – participants can take their time to either add or create a piece of work inspired by the Mail Art, with the hope that the piece will be sent between participant and buddy a few times, to see how they can influence and inspire one another’s creativity.   And then maybe in the future, they can meet up in person!
